Greg VanHorn began his career in Columbus City Schools as a high school special education teacher and coach. Dr. VanHorn has served at local and state levels with a broad range of building leadership experiences: athletic director, assistant principal for curriculum, co-director at Tolles Technical  career Center, a district special education director and a community school principal a Crittenden Community School, a non-profit charter school in Columbus serving potential middle school drop-outs and those not achieving in the traditional school setting  Greg worked as a Race to the Top regional specialist with large urban districts (Cincinnati Public, Columbus City, and Toledo Public) for the duration of the RTTT federal grant from 2011-2015.

While pursuing his doctorate, Dr. VanHorn served as a research assistant for the KNOTT grant developing teacher training modules and interviewing participating teachers across several states gaining qualitative data for further development of training tools. His graduate experiences include Freshmen Early Experience Program (FEEP) for pre-service candidates in teaching at The Ohio State University serving as an instructor and facilitator.  During his Master’s program, he served as Career Preparation Intern at Jones Middle School, Upper Arlington City Schools, Upper Arlington, OH as a liaison between students and business/organization leadership.

Dr. VanHorn’s passion for collaborative inquiry processes and school leadership for school improvement has been his focus the last four years. As a leadership and collaborative team coach at the building level for Columbus City, Huber Heights and Deer Park, Dr. VanHorn supported principal leadership development and building the capacity of shared leadership of building and teacher teams.  He worked with each building principal in a personalized way to support their growth and their professional and building level goals. 

Dr. VanHorn has a bachelor’smaster’s, and Ph.D from the Ohio State University. His doctoral degree was in Educational Administration with an emphasis in the areas of collaborative inquiry and school leadership.
